Be a Better Community Builder!
American Cancer Society increases awareness with Flickr.
Patrick Shore, Online Communications Manager for the American Cancer Society, saw a unique opportunity to build awareness and community among attendees of American Cancer Society events. Hundreds of people were taking digital photos at the Relay for Life celebrations, ACS’s flagship event. Patrick teamed up with Flickr to collect and share event photos. Now each event is a continuous living history of hope, showing how the events evolve from year to year, helping cancer survivors connect with each other, and building awareness for the cause.
Today, about 8,000 photos have been sent live and have gotten more than 12,000 views. The impact on raising awareness for the organization has been enormous—and Patrick sees that extending to other groups, as well. Says Patrick, “The ability to for non-profits to reach their constituents through Flickr is immense.”
